about CEWE
CEWE is Europe’s leading photo service provider, headquartered in Oldenburg, Lower Saxony. Since its founding in 1961, the company has offered traditional photo prints, as well as a wide range of customizable photo products. These include the CEWE PHOTO BOOK, personalized puzzles, and large-format wall art. The CEWE Group employs 3,500 people across 21 countries. Through its B2B operations, CEWE collaborates with drugstores, supermarkets, and other retail partners across Europe.
With 4ALLPORTAL's AI search, we are able to find all files that do not have keywords. This makes it even easier for all users to find the right files in a short amount of time.
Over the course of 60 years, CEWE has become the European market leader in photo services. As the company grew, so did its archive of marketing content. However, managing the increasing volume of assets became time-consuming. Files had to be maintained multiple times, searches were time-consuming, and collaborating with agencies and partners required a great deal of manual coordination. Verifying image rights was particularly time-consuming. For each campaign, it was necessary to determine which usage rights applied and where an image had already been used. There was no central, reliable overview. Consequently, demands on the existing media and image management system increased. Therefore, CEWE decided to implement a digital asset management (DAM) system that would consolidate content, usage rights, and usage histories centrally.
CEWE processes large volumes of image and media files for use in various products, campaigns, and countries. Therefore, the company was looking for a powerful, highly customizable system that could automatically track complex file relationships and provide a clear overview of a piece of content’s entire journey—from capture and selection to eventual use.
In collaboration with CEWE, 4ALLPORTAL implemented a centralized digital asset management (DAM) solution that connects media content, image rights, and workflows across national and system boundaries. The project focused on intuitive search capabilities, clear access structures, long-term knowledge transfer, and technical integration.
The multilingual on-premises DAM was integrated with the CEWE Web CMS and went live after about nine months.
Image rights, usage locations, and file relationships can be tracked centrally. Flexible roles govern access for different user groups.
CEWE and 4ALLPORTAL are developing a semantic search tool called Natural Language Search that allows employees to find images using their own words, even if the images are not fully keyword-tagged.
In our whitepaper, you’ll learn how AI is revolutionizing your digital asset management — from smart search to automated text generation. Save time, reduce costs, and take your content workflows to the next level.

CEWE and 4ALLPORTAL are working closely together, even beyond the implementation of the DAM. This partnership combines CEWE’s experience in photo finishing with 4ALLPORTAL’s expertise in DAM systems.
“CEWE, the European market leader in photo finishing, and 4ALLPORTAL, a DAM system expert, have joined forces.”

Even after the system is launched, we continue to work closely together. Together, we evaluate new requirements and continuously adapt the system to CEWE’s needs. “We regularly request new customizations and features, and we collaborate on configuration as well.” Katrin Meiners
