Every user has their own way of thinking and using words to describe things. These differences have an enormous effect on the quality of search results and metadata tagging in every DAM or PIM system.
Some users may think of “computer”, some call it “PC”. In case “PC” is tagged all over your assets, a user searching for “computer” will be disappointed with their search result „0“, and must spend a lot of time trying out keywords to get the required result.
With the 4App Thesaurus, you can create your own thesaurus librarys to “harmonize” your users‘ ways of thinking and improve the search result. For example, you could create a thesaurus “PC hardware” with all keywords you want to add synonyms or misspellings for. All these will then be considered when performing a search.
As a result, users searching for “computer” will not only receive all assets tagged “computer”, but also all other assets tagged with the terms you have assigned in the thesaurus library, e.g. “PC”, “Mac”, “IBM”, and even “commputer”.
With Thesaurus, you can also create complex tree structures with related and subordinate terms, e.g. to consider product families. For example, you can create a thesaurus library “Apple”, branching to “Computers”, “Smartphones”, and “Smart Watches”, and branch further as you need it.
As a result, users searching for “Apple” will receive all assets tagged “Apple”, but also all assets that are a part of or subordinate to “Apple”, in this case: all computers, smartphones and smart watches. On the other hand, users searching for “Smart Watches” will receive all smart watches, but no smartphones or computers.
